Plasencia family

Plasencia

It all started in 1878, when Eduardo Plasencia came to Cuba from the Canary Islands to grow tobacco. Today, the Plasencia family produces more than 30,000,000 cigars a year and supplies tobacco to virtually all major cigar manufacturers. You cannot see the name of Plasencia on a cigar band, but you can be sure that the tobacco from Placentia family’s plantations is in the cigar that you are currently enjoying.

‘We always experimenting and striving to improve tobacco, so we provide our customers with the best tobacco possible’, says Nestor Plasencia Jr.

Nestor Plasencia Sr. was born in Cuba on October 8, 1949. Having grown up enough, he learned the tobacco trade and joined his father’s business. Sixto Plasencia Juarez worked at his tobacco plantations in Cuba, San Luis, Pinar del Río. In 1959, the revolution took place and the authorities started the nationalizion of the farms. In 1965, Don Sixto and his family were forced to emigrate to Nicaragua, where they continued growing tobacco in the Jalapa Valley.

On June 26, 1975, Nestor Plasencia Jr. was born in the city of Esteli, Nicaragua. Four years later, in 1979, the revolution in Nicaragua forced the family to move to Honduras, where they had to start all over again. They opened two factories in Danli and El Paraiso. Like his father, Nestor Jr. studied agriculture and graduated with a degree in agricultural engineering. He joined the family business in 1996 and was fascinated by the production process, which finally resulted in the development of the production of Plasencia cigars.
